SHORT SUMMARY

After the tragic events of September 2023 which resulted in a temporary loss of Artsakh, most of the people who were forcibly deported from their homes became homeless in Armenia. Housing is the biggest problem Artsakh residents have nowadays.

Extremely high rents and charges make it impossible to plan a new life in Armenia.

Many people unfortunately choose to leave Armenia mainly due to housing difficulties.

IMPACT

This project aims to give ten families from Haghorti village in Artsakh permanent homes in Armenia.

This will bring the Haghorti community together which will enable them to preserve Artsakh's rich traditions, culture and dialect. This will surely also contribute to coping with the loss and despare trauma that most Artsakh residents are going through.

Haghorti villagers are good farmers and hard working people. Once the housing issue is solved, they will play a big roll in the development of their new community.

PROBLEM

While housing is the main problem, it can also be the main solution.

And while this project cannot help everyone, at least few families can get a permanent shelter and feel safe and secure in Mother Armenia.

Lack of action from government to provide residents of Artsakh with proper homes brings along many doubts and uncertainties. People start considering leaving Armenia.

Loss of Artsakh Armenians' presence in Armenia will be the second and most dramatic thing to happen to Armenians in our modern history.

TEAM

My name is Arpine Martirosyan. I was born and raised in Yerevan, Armenia.

I am currently living in Stockholm, Sweden. I am married and have two children.

I have been actively involved in issues related to Artsakh and the Recognition of the Armenian Genocide in Sweden.

I hold a Master's Degree in Genocide Studies from Uppsala University and another MA in Conflict Prevention and Resolution from Uppsala and Groningen Univerisites with Artsakh as a case study.

I have also been running an Armenian Sunday School in Stockholm for more than 6 years teaching Armenian children the history of Armenia and Armenian people.

My first project with Haghorti community was in 2017. Back then I did some fundraising to build a Cultural Center for Haghorti and it was a major success. I have been since then collaborating with Haghorti village in various projects. I feel morally bound to this community and people and after all that happened, I have decided to do all that is in my power to help Haghorti people overcome the darkest page of our modern history.

The draft version will surely change during the process but we will keep it close to this one.

EVENTS LINKED TO THE FUNDRAISING

On October 29, 2023, a charity dinner with an auction sale was successfully organized in Stockholm, all proceeds of which will be allocated to this project.
